Eyeblink Analysis
Eyeblinks create disturbing large amplitude artifacts in
electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings. This can cause problems
especially in the spectral analysis of continuous EEG recordings and
in single trial analysis of event-related brain potentials.
On the other hand, eyeblinks can provide information on
mental state, fatigue, and task difficulty. Eyeblink rate and
durations are shown to be reduced in
concentration demanding tasks e.g.
reading or flying an aeroplane etc. and increased in fatigue.
- Detect temporal locations of eyeblinks from VEOG signal and in some cases from frontal EEG channels. The detected locations can be modified if the adaptive algorithm fails to detect some eyeblink potentials or detects false potentials.
- Calculate many parameters for eyeblinks including eyeblink rate, eyeblink duration, amplitudes of the potentials, and latencies to stimuli.
- Do epoch based eyeblink analysis for e.g. multiple task studies.
